As Samhain descends, loyalties fracture, the dead grow restless, and Ulaid begins to unravel.

I've read several of Hanna Park's books now, and one of the reasons I keep coming back is that she always manages to pull me into her world from the very first chapter. Tides of Treachery was no exception.

This is the kind of fantasy I enjoy most—full of ancient legends, old magic, and characters I genuinely cared about. Macha was an easy character to root for, and I loved watching her grow as the story progressed. I was equally invested in Ruairi, and I thought the romance between them was handled really well. It felt like a natural part of the story rather than something added for the sake of it.

I also loved the atmosphere. Castle Rock is one of those settings that stays with you after you've finished reading. The House of Faces was wonderfully creepy, and there were several moments where I couldn't wait to find out what secret would be revealed next.

The story does take its time building the world, but I never minded because I enjoyed spending time there. Before I knew it, I was completely caught up in the mystery, the magic, and the lives of the characters.

Another thoroughly enjoyable read from an author whose books rarely disappoint. I'm already looking forward to seeing what she writes next.

If it weren’t for him, I would never have gone to the kitchen to make a pot of coffee, feed the cat, and sit on the loveseat in front of the fire.
