FOREVER THIS TIME:

An Echo Lake Novel (#1)

By Maggie McGinnis

Boston therapist Josie Kendrew specializes in helping other people mend their broken hearts, but her own heart is another story. After years of putting distance between herself and her childhood home, she’s forced to rush back to Echo Lake, Vermont when her father has a stroke, but once she arrives, painful memories threaten to send her driving right back out of town. Between her sweet “little sister” and Ethan Miller, the boy she left behind, Josie finds herself face-to-face with a pain she’s not sure she can endure. Ethan is now—wow—all man, and he’s sitting in the CFO chair of Snowflake Village, her family’s Christmas-themed amusement park … a place noted by journalists as charming and sweet and festive, but a place she’s derisively called Camp Ho-Ho forever—or at least since she was old enough to watch the twinkly lights and endless hours destroy her parents.

Ethan Miller never set out to be the one left behind, but when Josie blew out of town ten years ago with no explanation, suddenly that’s who he was. After a week spent mostly in a Jim Beam haze, he tucked her engagement ring in a drawer and set out to make a life for himself, though their history gnaws at him every day he walks the pathways of Snowflake Village. A lot has changed since Josie fled, so when she drives back in, a mixture of angry, scared, and sad, he has no idea whether she’ll stay … or leave him shattered once again.

As the days turn into weeks, both Ethan and Josie realize that maybe, just maybe, Snowflake Village might hold more than just ghosts from the past. It might hold the possibility of a second chance at love...

Books such as this will never go out of fashion. I absolutely adored everything about this novel. It is an emotional rollercoaster of a ride that kept me firmly buckled in, and I found that I could not read this novel fast enough.

Both Josie and Ethan are such enthralling characters to read about. They are the kind of couple that a reader really roots for.

I loved everything about this book; it is in one simple word - Brilliant!

Anxious People by Fredrik Backman #BookReview

Anxious People

By Fredrik Backman

In a small town in Sweden it appears to be an ordinary day. But look more closely, and you'll see a mysterious masked figure approaching a bank...

Two hours later, chaos has descended. A bungled attempted robbery has developed into a hostage situation - and the offender is refusing to communicate their demands to the police.

Within the building, fear quickly turns to irritation for the seven strangers trapped inside. If this is to be their last day on earth, shouldn't it be a bit more dramatic?

But as the minutes tick by, they begin to suspect that the criminal mastermind holding them hostage might be more in need of rescuing than they are . . .

This novel is so hard to review without giving away any spoilers. But the story is about a bank robbery that turns into the most ridiculous hostage situation! Anxious People is an a fabulously entertaining book but at times it is also uncommonly moving. there are so many twists and turns that one could very easily end up with whiplash, but I think that is what makes this book so especially appealing.

It is funny, packed to bursting with really interesting characters, and it is a novel that is very difficult to pull yourself away from.

if you are looking for something a little different to read and are up for spending a couple of hours, being throughly entertained, then look no further than Anxious People by Fredrik Backman.

Poetry Corner: Today's post is by Robert Frost #Poetry #FireandIce

There is never such a thing as too much poetry. Today's poem is by Robert Frost, and this so happens to be one of my favourites.

Fire and Ice

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

Meet the poet

Robert Lee Frost (March 26, 1874 – January 29, 1963) was an American poet. His work was initially published in England before it was published in the United States. Known for his realistic depictions of rural life and his command of American colloquial speech,[2] Frost frequently wrote about settings from rural life in New England in the early 20th century, using them to examine complex social and philosophical themes.

Frost was honored frequently during his lifetime and is the only poet to receive four Pulitzer Prizes for Poetry. He became one of America's rare "public literary figures, almost an artistic institution."He was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 1960 for his poetic works. On July 22, 1961, Frost was named poet laureate of Vermont.
